Lactation Consultations with an IBCLC
My husband contacted Anjelica as soon as I gave birth and was still in the hospital for a lactation consultation due to the assistance/support at the hospital was minimal. Baby and I were both discharged from the hospital together and Anjelica went to see us the very next day for a home visit. It was an amazing experience to be able to sit and not feel rushed throughout the consultation. She sat with me and discussed the birth process and how the beginning of breastfeeding was going. She watched how I was feeding the baby and then she began to assist me and give me advice, tips and suggestions. My husband was included in the whole process and Anjelica would also give him suggestions as to how he could support and help me. Anjelica weighed the baby and checked for any tongue ties as well. After the visit I felt confident in what I was doing and capable. Anjelica continued to check in on us after the visit to see how we were doing and how breastfeeding was going for us. Our family is so thankful for all her help and support throughout our breastfeeding journey!
During your consultation you will be seen by Anjelica Malone, who is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) who has been helping moms meet and exceed their breastfeeding goals for over 10 years. After the birth of my first child, I thought breastfeeding would come natural … like my body would just take over like it did in labor. But breastfeeding, to my surprise, needed to be learned by both mother and baby. There were a couple tricks and tips that could make a world of difference in your breastfeeding journey, which is so sacred. Helping a new mom breastfeed used to be the job of the supporting women around you – the women that would nurture you for the next 40 days postpartum and make sure you and baby were just focusing on bonding and being. But today’s world is a little different. And the women in our lives may not have breastfed nor have any advice to help you do it. Anjelica was recommended to us through a mutual friend. She was kind and supportive. And she came to us when I was recovering from really bad mastitis. I was about 15 days postpartum and super engorged. I was weak from 5 days of shakes, chills, and fevers, not to mention recovering from birth itself. My nipples had holes from where the infection was now healing. You would never know that this was my first experience breastfeeding because I went on to breastfeed my first born for 2 years and 7 months … only stopping because I was pregnant with my second and my body literally stopped producing milk. And now planning on my breastfeeding my second born for as long as my body is willing and able. Anjelica helped me through my most vulnerable time as a mother. She followed up and made sure the latch was deep and felt good. Breastfeeding became so natural and easy to me (after Anjelica’s help) that I can now breastfeed while cooking dinner, getting my first born a snack, and picking up a rag off the floor with my feet … all at the same time. Although probably not recommended. Her services are something I still recommend to new moms today. No one ever told me that breastfeeding is something mom and baby learn together. It’s a rhythm and flow they learn together. And it’s absolutely the best thing you can do. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help, especially Anjelica’s help!
